Case: HOTEL U14

Site and location: Hotel U14, Unioninkatu 14, 00130 Helsinki

The pleasant boutique hotel Hotel U14 and its California-style restaurant Version are located in Helsinki, right next to Esplanadi Park and the Market Square. The finishing touch to the appealing interior decor of the restaurant was provided by the chemical blacking of the fireplace with BOC Raven. The site’s designer was architect Jaakko Puro.

General Manager Janne Ant-Wuorinen is pleased with how the coated fireplace turned out. “We stumbled upon chemical blacking as a potential solution purely by chance, but the end result more than lived up to our expectations.” In addition to highlighting small details, chemical blacking is also ideal for accentuating large, even surfaces. It can turn large elements, such as a fireplace, into impressive eye-catchers.

Chemical blackening is a great solution when you want a high-quality finish. The steel does not lose its dimensional accuracy in the process, so even small details retain their shape, such as the patterns cut into the cladding elements in this site.
